CONSULTANT'S SUPERVISION
ON THE
CLINICAL TRAINING OF RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS

 

POLICY AND OPERATING PROCEDURES:

To promote quality clinical training of GSI residents and fellows, there must be adequate consultant's supervision in the hospital wards, operating room, and outpatient department.

ADEQUATE CONSULTANT'S SUPERVISION IN THE HOSPITAL WARDS:

There must be at least one weekly rounds of GSI patients in the hospital wards by at least one consultant.

Assignment of the consultant to make a weekly rounds will be by rotation.

 

ADEQUATE CONSULTANT'S SUPERVISION IN THE OUTPATIENT DEPARTMENT:

There must be at least one consultant physically present during an outpatient GSI clinic.

Assignment of the consultant to supervise an outpatient GSI clinic will be by rotation.

 

ADEQUATE CONSULTANT'S SUPERVISION IN THE OPERATING ROOM:

All "first GSI index operation" to be done by a resident and a fellow should be supervised by a consultant.

All "difficult" cases to be done by a resident and a fellow should be supervised by a consultant.

In every GSI operating day, there must be at least one consultant physically present in the operating room of GSI supervising a resident or a fellow.

Assignment of consultants to supervise operation will be by rotation.
