The GSI Residency Training Program

 

General Objective

To acquire the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitude in the management of patients with head and neck, breast, esophagus, and soft tissue surgical diseases.

Specific Objectives

  1. To diagnose logically and accurately all patients with head and neck, breast, esophagus, and soft tissue surgical diseases.
  2. To institute competent preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management to patients with surgical diseases of the head and neck, breast, esophagus, and soft tissue.


Categories of Residents

Expectations For Each Category of Residents

1st Year Surgery Residents

  1. To diagnose logically and accurately all patients with head and neck, breast, esophagus, and soft tissue surgical diseases.
  2. To institute competent preoperative and postoperative management to patients with surgical diseases of the head and neck, breast, esophagus, and soft tissue.
  3. To institute competent preoperative and postoperative management to patients with acute surgical abdomen and incarcerated inguinal hernia.

4th Year General Surgery Residents

  1. To institute competent surgical treatment to all patients with surgical diseases of the breast and thyroid.
  2. To institute competent surgical treatment to all patients with acute surgical abdomen and incarcerated inguinal hernia.

5th Year General Surgery Residents

  1. To institute competent surgical treatment to all patients with surgical diseases of the soft tissue, head and neck, and esophagus.
  2. To teach management of head and neck, breast, esophagus, and soft tissue surgical diseases to medical students and lower level GSI residents.
  3. To perform administrative functions as authorized by the GSI consultant staff.
